Time for the D2 Volleyball Showcase

The 2019 West Region Showcase kicks off today.

One of the best region-wide sporting events at any level gets underway today as the Division II West Region Volleyball Showcase takes place for the sixth consecutive year.

As we mentioned in this space last winter, the 2019 edition of the Showcase features a fairly significant format tweak. Read about the new "snake" setup for each of the six pods here (thanks to the GNAC's Doug English, head coach at Northwest Nazarene, for developing this system).

All 36 teams in the West Region -- 11 from the GNAC, 12 from the PacWest and 13 from the CCAA -- are participating. The CCAA is the host conference this season, with action taking place at the following CCAA-member campuses:

• Cal State San Bernardino
• Cal Poly Pomona
• Cal State LA
• Stanislaus State
• San Francisco State
• UC San Diego

Each team plays four matches in the Showcase, which will feature a combined total of 72 in-region matches over the next three days.

Since its inception in 2014, this tournament has been a boon for GNAC teams; in total, the GNAC has won at a 63 percent clip, compiling an overall mark of 117-79 vs. its in-region non-conference foes.
