GNAC Miscellany (Jan. 12)

Some random thoughts as the weekend is underway …

  • It’s been a great two weeks in men’s basketball in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Each of the past two Thursday nights the GNAC has featured sellout crowds and a pair of epic conference battles. Just two nights ago Western Washington and Central Washington put on a performance that ranks among the best college hoop games I’ve ever witnessed. And it was shown regionally on ROOT Sports, to boot. The week prior, a capacity crowd was on hand at Brougham Pavilion in Seattle as Western Washington beat Seattle Pacific in a matchup of top 10 teams.
  • A huge women’s hoops battle takes place in Bellingham later today when 11th-ranked Western Washington plays host to seventh-ranked Simon Fraser. Both clubs are 4-0 in GNAC play. You can hear thoughts from SFU coach Bruce Langford and his star player, Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe in this week’s episode of GNAC Insider.
  • Indoor track and field season gets underway in earnest today as a host of GNAC squads will be on the campus of the University of Washington for the UW Indoor Preview. The GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championships are just five weeks away. They’ll take place at Jackson’s Indoor Complex in Nampa, Idaho Feb. 15-16.
  • Administrators in the GNAC and around the country are preparing to meet just outside Dallas next week for the annual NCAA Convention.
