Originally a two-conference affair matching teams from the GNAC and Pacific West Conference, this region-wide event features all 38 Division II teams from the West playing exclusively cross-conference competition.
In total, 76 non-conference matches will occur at six pods from Anchorage to San Francisco.
Competition at each of the five GNAC venues features two teams from the GNAC, PacWest and CCAA. Every team will play a total of four matches -- one against each of the other four non-conference teams in the pod. In San Francisco, the eight-team pod includes four teams from the PacWest, three from the CCAA and one from the GNAC.
According to Showcase rules, pod assignments are based on the previous season's final regular season conference standings. The top pod will be contested in Anchorage and feature the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds from each conference. Other pods are Nampa, Idaho (seeds 3 and 4), Ellensburg, Washington (seeds 5 and 6), Monmouth, Oregon (seeds 7 and 8), Lacey, Washington (seeds 9 and 10), and San Francisco (seeds 11 and above).
With in-region non-conference results factoring heavily in the NCAA Division II postseason selection process, this weekend's event figures to once again play a key role in determining the eight teams selected for the NCAA West Regionals, which will be announced Monday, Nov. 20.
