NCAA Formalizes International Membership Policy

You can look for an announcement from the NCAA any day now, but it appears that the organization's Board of Governors will formally establish a policy permitting membership for institutions in Canada and Mexico.

Simon Fraser (and the GNAC) led the way for non-U.S. members back in 2009, when the Clan became the first international member of the NCAA.

The addition of SFU was part of a 10-year NCAA pilot program allowing Canadian membership.

Moving forward, each of the NCAA's three divisions will have the autonomy through their federated governance processes to permit membership from institutions in Canada and Mexico.

The successful transition by Simon Fraser played a part in the decision.
